Understanding the LA1040 assessment
Students should prepare for both the objective-testing and
written elements of the Contract Law assessment. The revision
materials are intended to support both knowledge recall and the
application of legal principles to factual scenarios.
Multiple-choice element
The multiple-choice component accounts for
25% of the assessment.
It consists of 25 compulsory questions and is completed
online within one hour once started.
Examination element
The written examination accounts for
75% of the assessment.
Students must complete a compulsory directed problem question
together with two further answers selected from the available
questions.
What the Contract Law Super Session covered
The original session was structured as two focused teaching
blocks. The Digital Resource Pack allows you to revisit that
teaching after the live event.
Session One
Contract Law foundations
The first part consolidates the central principles of English
Contract Law and considers how the main areas of the subject
fit together.
Particular emphasis is placed on identifying legal issues,
applying authority to a factual scenario and approaching the
kind of analysis required for directed problem questions.
Session Two
MCQs, problems and written answers
The second part focuses on assessment technique: identifying
what a Contract Law MCQ is actually testing, separating the
correct rule from plausible distractors and applying legal
principles accurately to the facts.
It also considers how to structure problem answers, identify
the relevant legal issues and plan effective written responses.
